Soil and composting

In mid-March I ran a composting and soil event with the aim of teaching children the wonders of soil and to inspire them to give composting a go.

We started by looking at some compost that was in the stages of decomposing. The young people loved looking at all the worms and learning about the important role they play in helping to make magical compost.

.

The next fun task was to do a composting experiment to teach the children about the brown and green materials that go into creating compost. Each child was given a plastic bottle and got to create a composter they could take home and look after.

We then got to work building a pallet composter. The children helped put the pallets together, then lined the composter with cardboard before filling it with compost, food and garden waste.

Such a fun event and hopefully it helped to create a few more composting champions.

If you interested in learning about composting I have a free downloadable PDF.
