Grow Your Own Food: A Fun, Family-Friendly Beginners Gardening Course in Luton & Hitchin

Are you dreaming of growing your own food but don’t know where to start?

Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking for a family-friendly way to dive into gardening, the Beginners Food Growing Course by Laura from the Young Growers Club is perfect for you!

What’s the course about?

This interactive 3-week course or hybrid course (part online, part in-person) is designed to guide families and beginner gardeners in Luton & Hitchin through the exciting process of growing their own food. With hands-on workshops covering essential topics like:

  • Where to grow: Maximising your available space, whether it’s a garden or balcony.

  • What to grow: Choosing the best crops for beginners and your family’s needs.

  • How to grow: Simple techniques to nurture your plants to success.

  • Companion planting: How to pair plants for better growth and pest control.

  • Succession sowing: Keep your garden producing throughout the seasons.

  • Composting: Create your own nutrient-rich soil.

A course tailored to families

Laura understands the challenges of juggling kids and learning new skills. That’s why these two courses are especially suited for parents who would like to learn without having to find childcare. They’ll be fun, craft and nature activities for the kids to take part in as well as the opportunity to do some gardening with us.

The hybrid course makes it easier to juggle family life and learning. Rather than having to commit to 3 week in-person classes the hybrid course will give you access to online topics you can learn in your own time before coming to one in-person session to cover the practical elements like seed sowing, potting on and composting.

Personalised for you

To make sure you get the most out of the experience, each participant will complete a pre-course questionnaire. This helps Laura tailor the sessions to your unique needs and give you the confidence to start growing your own food at home.

No experience required

Don’t worry if you’ve never picked up a trowel before! This course is designed for absolute beginners. By the end of the 3 weeks or hybrid course, you’ll have the knowledge and skills to turn your garden, patio, or even windowsill into a thriving food-growing haven.
