Grow a Sunflower Competition

Are you looking for a fun and creative way to get your kids excited about gardening? Then why not join our UK-wide grow a sunflower competition?

Growing a sunflower is a great activity for kids because they are easy to care for, require minimal maintenance, and provide a lot of benefits. They are abundant in pollen, which attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies, and their large flower heads look amazing in the garden.  They come in lots of different sizes and colours which is especially fun if you want to grow lots.

To give growing one a go all you need to do is choose a sunny spot in your garden, get a packet of sunflower seeds, sow them either in pots (April) or directly in the garden (May onwards), make sure they have water and soon you will have a beautiful sunflower to be proud of!

Families, schools or youth groups who don't have a growing space or garden can also get involved by designing their own unique sunflower. Kids can come up with their own designs, using colourful accessories such as ribbons, beads, and buttons to make their sunflowers stand out.

When the sunflower has grown to full size or you have designed your sunflower, you can email a photo of it to laura@younggrowersclub.co.uk (remember to include your name and sunflower height) or share it with us on instagram at @younggrowersclub.

All participants who share their entry with us will receive a special Young Growers Club badge.
